In the Land of the Mother: Savitri Revealed
From this temple all nations shall rise to greet each other,
not in disdain or conflict,
but as brother and sister souls,
rising at the dawn of a common sun.
This rising shall seem as natural as fear and separation once seemed,
and there will be an eagerness in the hearts
of all to take part in the celebration
of a common destiny and purpose.
Where once rancor, dissatisfaction, fear,
and anger reigned,
now, the sounds of peace shall go forth,
and a common tongue of love and unity
shall issue from the lips of all.
The Sound Temple, through its holding of the vibration of the highest light,
through its teachings of the way of peace
through sound, music, art, and all manner
shall embody a tribute to mankind’s potential, and its name shall be joy.
History of Mount Arunachala and Tiruvannamalai
Arunachala Mountain is considered an incarnation of Shiva. Myth and legend abound when looking for answers about the origin of this story but one only has to put their feet on the Earth of this sacred mountain to feel the energy it emits.
Located on the foothills of Arunachala Mountain, Tiruvannamalai is a temple town and a major pilgrimage centre in Tamil Nadu; the Panchabootha is considered to be the fifth element. Many holy saints, siddhas and spiritual leaders have lived, travelled and spread their divine knowledge and wisdom to the world through this place. Tiruvannamalai is one of the greatest Saivite shrines in Tamil Nadu, built on a sprawling 24-acre temple campus and built around the Annamalaiyar Temple, the town’s most prominent landmark.
Every full moon, tens of thousands of pilgrims worship Annamalaiyar by circumambulating the Annamalai hill barefoot; a 4-hour walk over 14km. According to Hindu legend, the walk removes sins, fulfils desires and helps achieve freedom from the cycle of rebirth.
Whether you visit the town to see the temple, visit the ashram, climb to Virupaksha Cave where Sri Ramana Mahirishi meditated for years, or simply observe the many thousands of pilgrims who gravitate here daily and especially at full moon, you will not be disappointed by what Tiruvannamalai has to offer. The town is a maze of fascinating streets, all centered around the focal point of the village: the Annamalaiyar Temple.
Thousands of people throng the streets of the town – this is one way of experiencing Tiruvannamalai – but few get the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside. We are offering an additional or alternative experience to those who want to feel the exquisite energy field of the sacred Arunachala Mountain but in a rural setting, surrounded by the views of mountains, hills and fields of flowers.
Arunachala Sound Temple will give you the opportunity to indulge your senses in all this spiritual landscape has to offer whilst you connect with the sacred mountain from a different perspective.
